e220 Engine - Variable Valve Timing

I have a 1996 E220 Coupe.  A pal tells me it may have variable valve timing, apparently it is 16 valve.  Can anyone confirm this for me? I read a review on a c220 from 1996 and it had variable valve timing.  Could both cars use the same engine? The bhp figure is identical at 150 from anything I have read.
