Can anyone help me. I have E220 - 1994 estate there is a problem with the indicator mechanism, it stops working for no reason and starts again. It's making me  I have replaced fuse and checked all. the only thing left is to get to the indicator arm to be checked. Do I need to remove the steering wheel and if so how (there is an air bag thing there). If not, how can I replace the indicator arm if it needs to be replaced?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Ben

I had that problem with the Peugeot, replaced the flasher unit and not the switch mechanism. Garage was able to tell me they went after a few years. I don't know much about the W124 except to like them....may be worth sourcing one as they are generally not too inaccessible....Haynes manual may be useful.

Thnx

I have checked all that and all bits seem to work fine. When I move the arm
it stops working then starts again.

Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner in through the aperture of the indicator arm/column shroud. (You'll need the plastic straw-like extension on the can).

Electrical Contact Cleaner

Thank you very much for your advice.

I got some electrical contact cleaner from Halford (£3.55) at the weekend and used it as you kindly suggested.

Guess What? it worked

Thnx
