E220 Saloon 2008 boot not opening

Hi all,
The electric boot opening via door and key fob failed yesterday, and to add insult to injury the key to open the boot manually turns but fails to open the boot, Any suggestions on how to get into the boot would be appreciated.

Once the car is unlocked, can you not open the boot normally then?
