Ok, I've searched here through lots of previous threads and still can't come to a conclusion.

My glow plug light has recently started to come on intermittently....

When you go to start the car it comes on then goes off - normal. I start the car and sometimes it then comes on for maybe 45 seconds or so and then goes off again. This can happen when the engine is cold or hot.

Whats the verdict chaps (chapesses)? Change the plugs?

Had the same fault on mine and changed the glowplugs myself and it sorted it, not got around to testing the old ones yet so dont know how many of the 6 wernt working but the car starts a little easier , not that it was difficult before.

Used these people http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/ , well reccomended

E220CDI glow plug problem

I know a bit about this one. My E250 did the same problem, that it glow plug warning light came on intermittently. Went to a a Stealers, who said it was "an electrical fault"
Went to local garage, (man and boy) who said dont be so silly, all Merc diesels do it as part of their operating system.
The system occasionally measures the resistance of the glow plug circuit, and if one( or more) is u/s then it puts the glow plug warning light on to warn the owner that there is a problem. Funny though local garages know this and MB Stealers dont!
If you have a multimeter measure the resistance of each used glow plug - basically if it has a resistance similar to others then it is OK. If no resistance (eg open circuit) it is U/S
