E220d battery/power steering issue

Hi

My 2005 plate e220 diesel
The battery warning light came on while driving today
Subsequently the power steering appeared to disable itself
I turned the car off for ten minutes hoping it was something spurious ,no such luck.

Any ideas (please)

Whats the battery voltage like? Mercedes don't like poor batteries

The power steering failure should have been a BIG hint
Pulley belt broken.

Check the pulleys for play before replacing the belt ans replace oif required.

Thank you I did as you suggested
water pump pulley was waving at me ! Changed pump
Idler pulley outer rim broken probably caused the belt to rip apart : changed also.
