E230 window and sunroof problems

Hi I have a 1997 E230.The drivers window goes down fine but has to be helped up as it keeps tilting backwards slightly.Sunroof tilts ok but only opens around 3 inches.Closes fine.Any help would be appreciated.

They're sticking through lack of use.

Clean the guides and lubricate with a silicon grease.
Refer to the DY thread for sunroof woes.

Thanks for the reply Chris but the car had a full service in February just before I bought it and "lubricate drivers window channel" was on the invoice.The window is used every day.Does the mechanism work on cables?

No I don't believe that the drivers window uses cables, although the sunroof does.

Obviously there was a problem with the drivers window before you bought it - hence the lubrication shown on the invoice. Check the door channels for any foreign debris. Usually dirt etc gets into the rear channel.

Try giving it a good clean with a toothbrush. Then lubricate with a clear silicon grease, it is possible that the garage used a silicon spray, which won't last long.

If you still have problems then you'll need to remove the door card and have a look inside at the mechanism. It is possible to replace the guides if required.

The suroof will definitely be a lack of use item as it's quite a common problem.
