A simple query,I hope! I have 2002 W211 E240 automatic. I am contemplating changing the front and rear brake pads myself. This does not involve having to reset anything in the car's "computer" system, does it??

yes - be very careful. The 211 has SBC so you have to ensure this doesn't fire up whilst the pads are out.
Officially, you must use a star unit to turn the SBC off.
Unofficially you could dis BOTH batteries or if you're feeling brave,
unlock the car, open the drivers door (which normally triggers the SBC), then close the door and wait a couple of mins. If all goes quiet you should be ok, but DO NOT OPEN ANY DOORS OR PUT THE KEY IN!!!
Malcolm (Television) has done his SL so may add something but I think I've covered most of it. Personally I bottled and got my indie to do it!

Just to add one thing, one guy did his by unplugging the SBC pump,, I was not to sure of this, but looking at the MB training program this is the way that MB train their engineers, you can start the car up with it unplugged and the instruments will go all Red, you can then plug the pump back in, and it all goes back to normal. Do press the brake pedal to empty the system.
On your car the pads are all (back and front) held in with the pins, two on each caliper. very easy to do, if you get stuck, just ask.

When you push back the caliper pistons open the bleed nipples and drain the old fluid to a waste bottle.
If you dont the reservoir may overflow and mess up the underbonnet area with paint stripper.

I would not do that. There is no need. Just remove the resevoir cap and insert absorbant threeply tissue.

Correct level when finished.
