Hi I have just blown the engine up, cruising at a little over 70 on the Motorway when bang and lots of smoke and oil. Car has done 96k and is the facelift model. Finacially do I get it rebuilt or try and find a replacement engine,
also if I find a replacement would a 320 petrol be compatable with gearbox, drive ect, as I find the 240 underpowered.

I guess look for a replacement engine. Someone with more technical knowledge will fill you in on going for the 320, issues with ECU etc but maybe they can be reprogrammed.

I suspect there will be all sorts of minor tweaks between the 240 and a 320 that will be a pain to sort out - minor stuff like radiators, brakes etc. These things are always more complex that you expect. Also I suspect your insurance co may be a bit awquard about it too. I'd just replace like with like.
96k is very early for a merc engine v6 to let go, though I once had an Audi do the same thing with 60 miles on the clock!

I went through this although with a 124.What part of the country are you in? I've some contacts in West Yorkshire who were excellent. There are also some ads. in Mercedes Enthusiast for replacement engines etc.etc.Crewe engines seem to be a top choice.

Hi thanks, I have taken it to Dronsfield who are putting a replacement engine
in and sorting other problems out, they advised me to replace like for like, ie 240 for 240 , and found a fault with a accelerator sensor or module thingy which costs £500.00 new
from Merc, perhaps that might be the problem with lack of grunt, so a few grand down but can't wait to get it back, been using wifes Vectra for last couple of weeks, but still hanker after bro in laws 320cdi,what a beast

If you go from the present to 320 then you are digging yourself a grave. and have a nice day.
