This is a bit long winded so settle down with a cuppa or a glass of whatever and read on....
A week or two back had a need to go down to H'row and given the problems on the M1 and the fact it was 17.30hrs I went X country joined the M40 at Beaconsfield and on to the M25 for the last dozen or so miles. The return journey was all M/way.
Before setting off I filled right up including rocking the car to release any trapped air until the pump would pump no more. Tried to keep as near to 60/65 as I could.
Upon my return I did the same thing then calculated my MPG - 36.91 was the result, in a E240 petrol never me thinks.
Last w/e went down to Brentwood used motorways this time again filling up and maintaining around 60/65 upon return the calculation gave me 36.53MPG.
Up to B'ham this time again all motorway but shorter journey 120 as against 175 and 205 respectively and yet again 36.84MPG.
Now I know my 'method' is not scientific or has the benefit of in-car computers BUT given that I ended up with very similar figures I just have to believe I am getting more MPG than when I was reliant on this barge to carry me around the country going to meetings etc with a heavy right foot in control.
So with an average of some 36.7MPG is that good or is there some one out there who gets a better return than that.
Even if I round down to say 35MPG that is still better than the 30MPG I used to get when driving for business.
Not that the above is of any interest to you oil burners out there getting in excess of 45+MPG etc but as a petrol head I am quite pleased with myself
Now as an after thought is it possible to change the instrument cluster for one with a computer etc?
