It was a sunny day so what better than to save myself a few pounds and change the rear pads on my w210 e240 estate (yr 2000). The first problem I encountered was that I could not get an 18mm socket on the caliper bolts so had to disconnect the anti rollbar. Then found that the caliper bolts were so tight that I had to ask the Mrs to help which was to say the least a serious loss of ego but it worked. When I got the caliper off I started to regret starting the job in the driveway rather than the garage as it then started to rain and hale stone. I got completly fed up by this stage and just put everything back together.

My question is how do I release the brake pads from the caliper do I bash the pins out (they didn't want to come out) or do I some how get rid of the spring clip first and if so how.

Sorry to say you gave yourself a bit of unnecessary work. There is no need to remove the calipers to replace the pads on you car ,just use a suitable pin punch or similar to drive out the pins, then withdraw the pads. Probably better to obtain new pins and antirattle clips before you start as the clips tend to fall apart.
As you have remove the caliper retaining bolts these should either be replaced or Loctite used on the threads when reassembling.
