E240 Stops and won't start

Hi can anybody help, I have a 1999 E240 Elegance auto. When driving the engine stops running and won't start, you have to leave it about 15-20 minutes then it starts and drives as normal. This can happen 3 or 4 times a day and then it will run for days without any problem, Please Help

This sounds like a Crankshaft sensor problem, thats the way they go

Another vote for the crank sensor - haven't had any starting issues with mine since I had it changed. Pesky little suckers start to fail and don't always even leave an error in the ECU. Let us know how you get on

Job is pretty straight forward yes - I watched Oliver at Prestige change mine in about 30mins - but I was chatting to the poor soul constantly :lol: :wink: It sits on top of the gearbox toward the back of the engine bay. Not easy to see in mine due to the V8, but should be easier on a 4 or 6 cyl engine. Just unbolt it from the mount, unplug the duff one, plug the new one in and then re-attach it to the mounting point. Hope that helps?
