Hi, after noticing that none of the services this car has had changed the spark plugs, i thought now may be the time (65k miles) I was surprised when my dad was quoted over £200 to change these including 12 spark plugs... i was saying no its a six cylinder itl only have six. After a bit of checking i realise it does indeed have 12 (twin spark). Anyway, very pricey at mb dealer for the plugs and my book doesnt have any info about them. Can anybody tell me which plugs are suitable or where to find this info please. Ill probably buy them from gsf and want to make sure i get the correct ones.

It looks a bitch of a job to change these but ill give it a go, how do the engine covers etc come off, not immediatley obvious looking at it. I guess removing them and the coil packs etc will give a bit more access to the plugs.

Many thanks for any help.
Craig.

The cover on top just lifts up and off, remove the front section first. The plug caps just pop off with the aid of a long spanner against the rocker cover as leverage.

They are fiddley and time consuming, but with a selection of short extensions on your plug socket you will crack it.

yes - perfectly possible - I did mine a few years ago. It is a btch of a job though - took me 2 hours and some cuts and bruises.
Worth considering a new set of leads at the same time as it makes a massive difference to the smooth running/idle. Having had a 240 from new I noticed the degradation whereas most folk start with a 4 yr old and know no different. My experience is that a set of leads starts to degrade after 3 yrs on that engine but with twin spark the effect is masked.
Platinum plugs are required I believe - copper is for 8k changes. I am told the dealer is a good source but I got mine from sparkplugs.co.uk.

I just change my e240 sparkplug at my local indy and cost me 138 pound (+labour). I figured out it was reasonable since the price for the plug it self is almost 90 +vat (12- qty). I changed it while sent it for my service B.
