Hi, have had this 1998 e240 (82k)for a few months and love it,no problems till yesterday. After a 30 mile run stopped for shop, got back in and it failed to start.Tank over a quarter full indicated, engine turns, splutters to maybe thousand revs and dies.called out breakdown he looked under hood, checked some valve , petrol seemed to spray under pressure so he said it was not fuel pump. hes stumped , im depressed can any one help? or anyone got suggestions? thanks.

This should be the crankshaft position sensor a common fault

Generally it will not splutter if it is the Crankshaft position sensor that is faulty. I suggest it is a fuel pressure problem. Get a guage and measure it. Should be nearly 4bar when running and 3ish when cranking/ignition on.
