Hi I have a 2003 e270cdi avantgarde Tip Auto.

I keep getting a warning on the dash telling me to visit a workshop as i have break wear??

This is strange, as a week or so ago my friend who is a technician at mercedes gave my car a full service, checked the brakes and were all very good on wear, he updated the braking unit via there computer which is the thing that makes the groaning noise when you open the doors, cant remember its name!!

But i keep getting the warning, also ive noticed that when i pump the brake pedal with engine on or off it makes a strange creaking noise.

I would get my friend to look at it again but i cant as hes got a baby on the way and too busy painting now at weekends GREAT!!!

Hope you can help PLEASE!!!

Thank you

The noise is the SBC brakes charging and normal on a 211

The sensor wires on the pads are often set at a 50% point, so though the pads look OK they could be down to the wear sensor pins

I have the same braking system, and this could just be the rear calipers and nothing to worry about, my car can do it sometimes

Hi,

Can't guess at the noise but know that if the warning sensors are worn but not replaced at the same time as the brake pads then if they get wet they will short and give the 'visit workshop' warning. The malfunction will clear once the sensors dry and the contact broken.

Good luck!

The sensors on your car are the two wire type, if the pads were worn to far, this cuts the wires in the sensor and the light come on and stays on, unlike the earlier system of one wire that put the brake wear lamp on once you have touch the pedal.

For the brake wear lamp intermittently come on it would suggest a lose sensor wire where the sensor plugs into the body. You could have 4 sensors on you car, one on each wheel
