Just purchase my 2004 E270 CDI Avantgade 11 days ago. It has 51,000 miles and a full Mercedes Benz service history.

On a long journey today after about a 5 hour drive, 1 hour break I started out on the return leg of the 5 hour drive. Pulled out to pass a car and the power suddenly went. The car will not go over 60 miles an hour and basically struggles to get up to 60.

Can't believe it but just looking for any ideas on fault diagnosis.

Limp home mode.

Is it ok if you switch off and on again? If so, the first thing to look for is the MAS sensor. (get the innards from a Bosch outlet). There are various bits on the 270 that can cause this, split turbo pipes, other duff sensors. Ideally get a diagnostic done, but if I had to guess, I'd say the MAS. It normally is.

Thanks for the reply. Can you explain what the MAS sensor is and what it does - sorry about my complete lack of knowledge on this issue.

Jberks is correct in saying that it should be this component.

It is a filter that sets up the engine management and adjust the fuel air ratios

Do save yourself £200 and get the insert from Bosch.

Look in the engine section ,its all there and how to do it.

On a petrol engined car the Air Mass Sensor just controls the fuel air ratio's, but on a diesel in addition to the above the Air Mass Sensor also monitors and controls the rate of Exhaust Gas Recirculated
