I had to have the head unit (speedo etc) replaced on my new E270. At the same time they did the first service.

I now cannot get a miles to service. First it said "Service display not possible" then it went in for another day and now it says ------

My dealer says this will happen until the distance to the service is less than 10k miles. IS this true ?

What happened to your service display after a service ?

Thanks

Jonathan

Your dealer is wrong.

Either he has done the job wrongly or fitted a dud unit or you have a dud computer.

The display should be up. Period.

You need to bring the car back to him and leave it with him until it is sorted.

This is MB dealer way [not all of them but a fair percentage] of getting out of warranty work.

Perhaps I should have added, after first service when you get the car back it should call for next service at 13000 miles [at least mine did].

There is a possibilty you see that in replacing the head unit the ASSYST system got buggered up.

The dealer ( or a least the poor service receptionist) is a little confused.
Your instrument pod should be showing the countdown to service.
Unlike the 210 model which olafMaxwell has your vehicle holds is service record in the central gateway. (A separate component on the superior 211 model).
I can?t see way they would not wish to conduct warranty repairs as the dealer gets paid by M.B the same as if you were paying.
The 211 model is a very complex beast, may I advise you go and speak with your local dealers foreman who I am sure will have the car sorted in a heartbeat. If I were a betting man I would put my money on a simple coding error.
Good Luck

MB Dealerships

As I read through the forums (forae?) I am absolutely dismayed at the prominence of issues relating to poor MB diagnosis or level of service/competence.

Mercedes Benz Owners Association must have quite a powerful voice. Can we not do something about this dreadful state of affairs, say a questionnaire/poll, and send the results to Milton Keynes or Germany, naming and shaming where legally possible?

I liked Maybach's reply. I have not investigated the difference between the W210 and the W211.

It is very clear from what he has written that the car should have been properly fixed before being sent back from the dealership. A simple coding error is not acceptable service, its incompetent and shoddy. To then take the customer for an idiot with a cock and bull story like that speaks wonders for the brand name and those entrusted with maintinaing the quality of the name. Why not be honest with the customer?

This is why I drive the earlier 210 model.

And this is why the site is full of such negative comments.

If we were to treat our customers like this......
