E270cdi elegance 04 wheel upgrade

Hi guys - my wife has a an 04 plated elegance , it came with the standard 17inch wheels - they look alloy , but hey not overly pretty , i have never upgraded wheels on a vehicle , any advice & has anyone done similar , any ideas what fits right & looks a little better.

I thought the standard wheels were 16"?
The basic rule is that the bigger the wheel, the thinner the tyre sidewall and the harsher the ride. The 211 had an optional upgrade to 17" wheels but they also insisted on the sports suspension pack, though I'm not sure why. The ride is certainly firm but still comfortable. The new "sport" has 18" wheels but I suspect it may be a bit too harsh.
I think my wheels are the best looking on the 211, but then I'm biased.

I have a set of 16" 5 spoke Avantgarde wheels for a new shape E-class, they are straight but really need a refurb, £50 if you're interested. Surrey/Hants boarder.
