Hi Forum, I wonder if anyone could offer some advice. I have a very intimitant starting problem happens every couple of months or so. Car is used every day, once in a while the engine will crank as per norm but will not fire no matter how many times i try. This last happened 2 months ago i checked the primary feeds to the cylinders then she statrted first time could i have a bad connector here ? And of course woudnt start today. Then the fault just clears :)

Many Thanks david

Hi David being so intermitant makes things hard. It should have recorded the fault.. Have a read out of the codes, most garages can do this

Malcolm

Ignition switches are a fairly common fault, mine went at 40k, if it wont start turn the key a few times and see what happens

Thanks Malcolm, Do you know if the switch fails due to switch contacts or logic. The key looks like it has an infared sensor thanks for yor advice

The switches fail mainly due to contacts they have wipers that must keep in contact when the key is turned, some of the contacts need to hold relays closed throughout the starting cycle. Once the relays have dropped out that's it, no go.

I do add that this is only one of many things that can happen.

Its also worth checking the alarm/immobiliser. If the unit has developed a fault it may inhibit starting. I don't know whether you can disconnect or bypass the unit for a while, to see if this solves your problem, if your other checks draw a blank
