I have just been out for a drive today and out of the blue my gear box will not change into 3rd or 4th. It just appears to be stuck in 2nd when I am driving. I tried to take revs up to 6K but this did not do anything, so I had to drive home pulling about 5k and doing s steady 40mph!
When cooled down I took her up the road and she changed up and down sort of OK but when hot she wanted to stick again.
Checked level and it is about 1inch above max! This is how she has been since srevice 4,000 miles ago.
when I put her in reverse she does not take up very well.
IS the box knackered or is it in the adjustments:confused:
Is there anyone in the Devon Somerset area who is a whizz with these boxes?

Not good to have too much ATF in the box. There are a few threads on this issue.

If it is a gearbox fault rather than something else, the Exeter gearbox center is very good and honest.
You must reduce the amount of oil in the box now before further damage is done. It must be checked when warm, and with the engine running.

Thanks so far.

What problems can be caused through too much Atf?

I have looked through and they all say too much is bad but why??

I will phone Exeter in the morning.

My back pocket is begining to feel depressed!!!!

One recorded fault is a spring ass;for failure to change from 2nd. there will be a fault code recorded as the gear box is in the limp home mode.
