The boot lock on my E300 seems slow to operate, and sometimes I cannot clost the lid because the latching pawl will not catch. All the other locks work OK.

You have a vacuum leak on the boot lock mechanism.E300 boot lock is slow to respond, mechanically there seems to be no problem, all parts are lubricated and functioning correctly. The fault seems to be, that the electrical signal that operates the air pump, is slow and this is causing a delay in the operation of the air piston on the lock. When the release button is pressed, a microswitch operates, which in turn should signal the air pump to activate the small piston on the lock, that then releases the locking pawl, this sequence is very slow and prevents the boot from being unlock for about 60 seconds. In an opposite sense, if the lock is released the piston stays out (the air pump still running) and the boot will not close for about 30 seconds.
Any further ideas
Have you cleaned/lubricated the piston on the vacuum system. If it is gummed up it could be causing its lethargy.E300 boot lock is slow to respond, mechanically there seems to be no problem, all parts are lubricated and functioning correctly.
