E300 Estate Hybrid 2014
I have a 2014 E300 BlueTEC hybrid Estate (S212 I think). For some time now the stop/start has only worked very occasionally if it's not too cold and I have driven a long way. I have also started getting some red 'see owner's manual' battery warnings which have become more frequent as I am not using the car so much in lockdown.

The hybrid system seems otherwise OK with good charge levels indicated on the hybrid battery and boost provided on acceleration, so I don't think the problem lies there.

From some searching, it seems like the stop/start battery could be on it's way out - it is the original OEM unit (so nearly 6 years old) and it's located under the boot floor so very easy to get to. It's an 019 size AGM battery, replacements seem fairly easy to come by and the physical swap would be easy to do.

I have read some stuff online that indicates that a coding or registration procedure might be necessary but I haven't found anything definitive. I can stick a donor/starter on the jump terminals so the system won't lose all power but can anyone advise if a coding or registration procedure is required, and if so is there anyone no too far from Rickmansworth that might be able to help me with that?

Thanks,

Jason.

Hi Jason and welcome
Really not sure what the stop start battery would need any coding , nor a donor necessary. Just take one out, refit with new one.
Unless there's something in the Hybrid trickery? If you have doubts it's worth checking with Wayne Gates in Harrow, respected Mercedes Independent

Thanks John.

I have put a message over to Wayne Gates so will see what they come back with.

Some sites indicate that things like sunroof and window settings, COMAND settings and radio stations etc. get lost without a donor (all easily recoverable) and others say that with AGM batteries there are battery management systems that vary the charging depending on the age of the battery and its history, and need to be told when a new battery is fitted so they delete the previous history.

It's difficult to find definitive statements though - hence hoping that the hive mind of these forums might provide enlightenment!
