Yes they are international but the maps aren't. If you have one fitted I would have it done there, if only for the fact that you have some local backup. However, given the higher prices in Australia for these things, I'd check out the difference first. However, and this subject has been done to death, why have one fitted? If you have a 300td W210, I am assuming, like the rest of us, you don't have thousands to throw around. Fitted DVD based systems make no sense to me. A portable system, whilst not as flashy as a fitted system, works virtually as well, are far cheaper to buy, update and maintain, plus you can take it out of the car and use it to find your way around by foot or in another vehicle.

I have a PDA and a bluetooth reciever and can swap it from the Merc to the Jeep whenever necessary (plus the PDA sits in my desk during the day and does PDA stuff). I will even be putting it in the suitcase this summer so I can navigate my way around Spain without the hassle of trying to get the Mrs to read a map. I can then pop it in my pocket and use to it find my way around the towns, or just to locate in which one of the identical streets I left the corsa. Horses for courses but I just can't see the point of spending 3+ times more for something that I'd have had to leave in the airport carpark.

SatNav

I bought TomToM One satnav which is one piece device slim enough to fit into a jacket pocket and has a rechargeable battery so you can walk around with it. It also comes with a substantial window suction bracket. I bought it from PC World for £220 (list £280) and it is one of the better performing devices, I've had PDA solutions before and this is much better. Maps are changed by changing SD memory modules. I am not sure whether you can get Oz maps. Worth checking it out on:

After doing the sums it is worth taking, I had the car from nearly new and pleased with the car. Karman Shipping approx £1500 to ship to Au, the rest is taxes and registration:cool:
