I am a new boy here and about to buy the above.

The car has a slight wheel noise going over uneven roads. Previous service suggested 'worn tie rods'. Also the engine damper needs replacing.

The car has cloth trim and has been regularly serviced partly by MB, but more recently by an independent garage.

It is clean overall and runs well. One other thing is there is an occasional dip or momentary power loss before picking up. Could this be a fuel filter issue.

I am told these 'run for ever'. Tempted to take the plunge, because after driving it everything else on the drive seems very inferior !

Any input on the above or comments about the price circa £9k negotiable would be appreciated ?

Seems ok, but cant you get the bits and pieces sorted before you buy?
You dont want to buy it and then realise that theres more to be done than you thought.

For a good buy the price has to be right, think about depreciation, in 5 years time it will 11 years old and probably on 200K miles it will be worth £1500 to £2000 then, so I would not pay more than £5K for it now and leave yourself £2K for new turbo and other bits. SO expect £1K depreciation over the next 5 years. If it were on 60K miles I would say £11K would be a good price.

My 97 (R) E300TD is for sale at £10450 if you are interested. 83k with FSH, recently replaced auto gearbox fluid, new anti roll bar links, new front discs and pads. Very well maintained. Elegance model, full climate control, self dimming mirrors, Brake Assist, etc, etc. No faults at all so nothing to fix :D It is a saloon though and I note that your question was regarding an estate model.

PRS see Dave K's Advert, its like Ive a crsytal ball in my spare room, as for high milers just come down the M4 corridor and take your pick around Slough/Basingstoke/reading/Surrey its like a high mileage merc market. and if you venture in South wales it gets even cheaper, just like the housing

I have had a W210 300TD saloon from new on 01/03/99. Originally serviced by main stealer, but for the last 4 years by a commercial diesel independant. (I get to watch). Most important to change the engine oil, do not wait for 14-15K miles to come up on the service indicator, which is what the lease contract service agreement insisted on. I got out of this arrangement as soon as I could!
I now have 118K on the clock, and the general concencus is "just run in".
I was recently on holiday in Madeira which is extremely hilly, and all Taxis are Merc, old W124's next model up, and W210s always diesel, and manual gearboxes because of the down hill engine braking required.
Typical mileages are 500-700K Kilometres (350K miles), without any major attention.
The 300 Diesel engine will climb walls, a great car.
PS I think the suggestion that £5K pounds is all you should pay is dreamland.
Choose carefully, buy one and enjoy it. Best of luck.

A good buy??

TonyCoolDaddy.
The orignal post was for a E300TD Avantgarde Estate 98R 125K, it was your repy that 5k was the right price to pay for it that prompted me to ask you where I could get some [same spec & miles etc] at that price, which you did not answer.
I think Seasons response was spot on, unless of course you CAN tell me where to get the same deal as you suggest, for the same spec car

Welcome to Dream land

Here is a car advertsised in "dreamland"
1996Mercedes E300D W210 Elegance Auto, 1996,
194000 miles, fully serviced, superb car, white with anthraicte interior, 10 months MOT. £5,995 . Tel: .
AUTO BENZTel: 028 90825600
Distance: 407 miles
Price: £ 5,995

See it on Autotrader

We all know dealers have to mark up Cars £1000-2000 to make a living, so they paid £4000 for this, due to its high mileage, about right I say.

Dont forget mercs as mass produced, they are not Aston martins![/img]

1996 W210 is non turbo diesel, with 4 speed auto box.
Still no critisism of the car, as I have a friend with one of these he used as a taxi, now with 275K miles, only major work has been a new auto box, and even that only because it was getting a bit hesitant, not a failure.
Howerver the car you list is £5 short of £6K, ie 20% more, and has nearly 200K miles on the clock.
The dealer may well have bought it at auction from a company insolvency etc. I still think that will be a very cheap price for this particular car model
