E300 TD Gearbox

Hi, I have a 1997 E300 turbodiesel. I am having problems with auto gearbox.Two weeks ago the S/W switch was moved from S to W. Shotly afterwards the car went into limp mode. Switching off the ignition and moving th switch back to s cured the problem. However after a journey of some 25 miles after being parked for an hour same thing happened. switching off the ignition cured the problem again. The next time I did a journey of some 25 miles same problem again after being parked. This time the car is in permanent limp mode. As an aside the cruise control has gone dead as well.Anyone any ideas.

You have lost a speed signal from somewhere, it could be the wiring leaking into the ECU or the electro plate,,best checked on STAR with an indie.
