hi...
the problem on my E300 TD (R reg) has been diagnosed as the Injector Pump drawing in air overnight thus causing a few seconds of misfire on a first start. the problem will only get worse.
i have decided that i do not want to get just the pump replaced. i have decided that, because i want to keep the car, i would like like to opt for a RECON engine on an exchange basis...
can anyone suggest anyone decent? i am prepared to travel but i am looking for a garage that does an honest job at a fair price...i am located in the North East by the way, many thanks...

The seals in question are easy to replace, they sit on top of the pump, special tool needed to do them, got to be cheaper then replacing the engine!!!!!

It's certain that you don't need a new engine, and extremely unlikely that you need a new injector pump - this problem can probably be fixed very cheaply.

Before touching the injector pump itself, make sure that all of the low pressure fuel pipe O ring seals are renewed, and the injector leak off pipes are replaced. The seals cost pence, and the pipe a few pounds (<£10) and aren't a huge task to replace (2 to 3 hour's work, and well within the scope of DIY or any independant garage). There's also a seal behind the shut-off valve which many people miss which you should renew.

If, after making sure all these seals are in order, you still have a problem, you need to have the delivery valve seals replaced - this can be done with the injector pump in-situ. If you aren't an experienced mechanic, I would entrust this work to a local Bosch diesel specialist.

yes, ok. all O ring seals and leak off pipes have been replaced, also a new shut off valve replaced with a new one with everything tested. i will take your advice and get the delivery seals replaced and there is a nearby local Bosch place. cheers.
