Despite testing the secondary fan ( carrot test) my newly acquired diesel estate is still running at 110 with the a/c on in outside temperatures of 26c or 80F.

My E320 cabrio runs between 80/90 in the same conditions which I'd have thought was more normal. .

So I was surprised when my local stealership said it was 'normal' on the phone. Are they right? Do diesels run hotter?

I've booked it in for them to take a look at it on Friday but would value any comments.

I don't think that

110 constant running can't be right for any engine, as it's just about on the boiling point of your coolant. Maybe your pump is a bit suspect, or any of the other things surrounding it, such as thermostat, drive belt etc. What mileage has the car done?

110 doesn't sound right- what temps does it run when the AC is off?
Mine is none AC and is pretty much always a steady 85 with the occassional 87-90 when working hard.

The car's done 270k kilometres - certainly will check the things you mention especially the thermostat valve.
Incidentally I waited because yesterday it was booked into the local stealership who rang last night to say car wouldn't be ready till tuesday. I went pale thinking they'd found a kinds of horrors. Nope - just didn't get round to looking at it!
