Hi
can anyone tell me where to find and how to remove and test the tacho sender on a 95 E300D M606?

I have erratic tacho and A/C so am trying to eliminate the various elements.

(yes have searched and found stuff on older models but not on M606 unit which seems quite different - no little black canister on fender)
thanks
Keith

Hmm.....

Not certain but I believe the tacho signal is generated by the alternator. If you have a slipping belt this might also explain your A/C problems. Does the tacho problem rear it's ugly head when you switch on the air con? The air con would put a greater load on the belt and cause it to slip....

Or I might be talking out my backside 'cos I'm tired.....

I appreciate your input!

Not at all , I welcome your response it makes a welcome change from my posts being ignored, keep posting!

However it doesnt come from the alternator which has its own speed regulator. I know that on the older diesels there was a small black canister on the inside of the fender which picked up an induced signal from the crank. Problem is that its not there on the M606 engine and I cant see it!

The a/c works less than the tacho and I have checked belt tightness but I agree if it were slipping it would explain the a/c not working but not the tacho on the dash.

cheers
Keith
