hi i have just purchased a 1996 (N) E300D avantgarde auto.....70000 miles...............can anyone tell me what this model number is w????????????as i am trying to get oil,air,fuel filters...and just keep getting these w210...numbers..........also what is procedure for changing fuel filter ..............also does autobox oil or filter need to be changed and if so at what mileage and finally does this model have cambelt or chain.......thanks for any replies.....tonyb :grin:

I think your 300D is similar to my older W124 300D.....if so the fuel filter is right at the front of the engine and sits next to the engine cover on the right hand side as you look at it.....very easy, but messy to replace. Make sure you have lots of rag packed around the filter to avoid diesel pouring all over the engine belt.

My 300D recomends an auto gearbox change every 36,000 miles......if its not been done on your car, I would suggest for peace of ind that you get it done.

All Mercs have timing chains and not cam-belts....with regular oil changes you should not have to worry about a timing chain for at least 150,000 miles or more.
