I have a E320 1995 (First of the new shape - oval lights) that needs a new blower motor & regulator.

Chassis WDB210055 2A 058195
Model 210.005 2A 058195
VB E 320

Can anyone tell me the part numbers and/or where I can purchase them from?

Thanks
Jeff - Essex - UK

Not sure about part numbers but the only place I could find the regulator was the dealer - £125. Are you sure you need both? The regs are common failures but the fans are generally ok. If you do need a fan, I would get one from a breaker - Mercman, Dronsfield etc.

I do have a fan that came with the car, but I'm not sure if its the correct one.

I'll try the one I have, but just wanted to know what a new one cost. Just incase.

So which dealer gave the price of £125 ? My local gave the price of £195 (inc vat)
I'd even take a second hand one.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I just walked into the Manchester dealer near my office and bought it over the counter - so no discounts etc. This was the price the specialist had quoted me too. £195 sounds a bit high to me. I can't remember the exact price to the penny but I do remember that it was just over £100 (and I though that was a bit heavy) not almost £200.

update...

Thanks for replying.

Things have got a little more complex now.

The original motor/blower is still in there & working. I also have a new regulartor hanging under the dash.

The regulator is unplugged and when I plug it in it works, BUT....
It gets rather hot. I've not left it plugged in for long.

Do I have the wrong regulator?
How do I stop the heat problem?

I've attached a pic of how I found the merc (inc the hanging reg)...

Thanks for all your help.
Jeff

Looks very wrong to me. The reg should be screwed up, and in fact it looks like the old reg is still in place in the background (block with lots of pin shaped cooling fins just behind the hanging unit). The one on mine had the 3 pin plug from the switch on the underside (fastened through the bottom plastic panel so you have to remove the plug before you can get the bottom panel off). and 2 spade connectors on each side to feed the fan. It may be they changed the design. It probably will get hot, it is a resistor at the end of the day, but in theory the airflow from the fan should keep it cool when the housing is together. The housing on mine is mainly comprised of cooling fins. It is always possible that if the fan is poor or the pollen filter is blocked, the reg will be overloaded and overheat but I imagine tested in situ it will get hot anyway.
I would pop into your dealer with the chassis number and have a look at their schematic, but the tie wrap is rather suspicious!
cheers,
JB

Continuation...

Thanks for responding jberks.

OK, I've wired it up & it all seems to work. For 5 minutes at least.

I've removed the pollen filters & they appear filthy. i.e. touching them has left
my hands black (see pic). SOoo.. What is the best way to clean these?

I'm also not sure how best to attach the new regulator. See image second
image please.

Any thoughts of either of these questions would be great.

Thanks again guys.

They're not carbon filters are they - ie the filter medium is black dust?

Filters...

Hey 996jimbo

They could be, I dont know. It wouldn't suprise me if they are.

It the first time I've seen a set of filters. How do you tell if they are dirty ?

Well I'm supposing all this as I don't know:

Presumably these pollen filters have a conventional filter ahead of them to take out larger particles - dust etc. This would leave the pollen filters with only pollen to filter out. That being the case I rather suspect that you can't tell if they're full 'cause you can't see the pollen.

Periodically you just have to assume they're full and change them as per recomended schedule. Or you can buy an electron microscope and study them yourself to see if they really are full.

Just my supposition - somene else might actually know the answer (and what they're talking about!).

If I'm right however the pollen filters should never get blocked but rather saturated with pollen and therefore no longer able to remove any more pollen from the air. If there is no other filter upstream of them then they could get blocked with dust etc. Either way I guess you might as well renew them now whilst you've got them out.

Sorry for the rambling response.

a little help please.

I'm in need a little help here.

1: The regulator I have doesnt fit onto the blower motor (wrong shaped porcupine heat sink).
2: When attached it gets very hot.

What do I do?

1: Replace the blower motor with one that will fit it?
2: Replace the regulator? If so how do I find out the part number/where to order it?

Hi Jeff,
Take your chassis number ideally with the car into the dealer and they should at least be able to supply the part numbers you need. They may well also be able to show you the correct parts from stock so you can see if you have the right ones already - or not. Won't cost anything and at least you'll know what you are supposed to have. I ususally find them quite helpful with these things.
