W210 E320 Avantgarde 2000
Hi to all,

The B service on my W210 E320CDI X reg(80000) is due and I was wandering if it's worth using the main dealer for this.
I was thinking because of its age/mileage I should go to an idie.

What does anyone advise?

Thanks.

How's the rust?
If you have fmbsh then your mobilio is intact and may be worth keeping that way. That gives you full breakdown cover and the corrosion warranty that could be worth a lot on an X plate E class (says someone who had a W reg one!).
Against that, the indie will know your can better and will be cheaper.
Also, your dealer should be offering a discount for cars the age of yours. If he's not, go elsewhere as most now do.
It swings on how much you want to keep the Mobilio and what the cost difference is, plus how many miles you do a year e.g. 1 service every 6 months or one every 18 months ....

It has fsh and my mileage is about 9000 a year mostly in town.

It's already been in for rust on the door rims under the mobilo cover( they kindly left paint spray on both wing mirrors) so I suppose it's worth going back to keep it intact.

Thanks for the discount idea.

Hi Bluegrass,
You've reached that crossover point where the age of the car and its value make a potential bill of over £500 look steep. When I reached that point with my 124 estate I used my local garage for all the basic work like oil and filter changes, in fact nearly all the work on that car was carried out by them.

The 210 is more complex (and I still use my local garage as I trust them) and so I would recommend an indie, somebody recommended by a friend or the forum. It's also worth considering an auto gearbox oil and filter change if not done already.

Hope your enjoying your car, mine still brings a smile to my face.

Malcolm

Thanks Malcolm210,

I'm worried about the Mobilo being voided and thus losing the rust cover. I have a good indie here in North London who costs half the dealers.

I'll ask around the dealerships and see the price difference after the discount and go from there.

I enjoyed having the car in the beginning (August 2005) but since then it's suffered a load of damage from inconsiderate/jealous people. All the doors have big dents, a long scratch from end to end, a big dent on the rear N/S panel and someone tried to open the fuel cap with a screw driver whilst in Brent Cross.

The price with discount is £500.

Is this about right?

Depends what that price includes.

Look in your service book and you will see whats included (mostly checks).

Won't include:

Brake pads, discs and fluid bleed

AC filters

Poss Fuel filter

and if you need the auto trans oil change that will be extra

@ £100ph the labour charges alone will be circa £200-300ish.

my dealer quotes £306 for a B service on my E270, now it's 3 years old. That's down from £409.
If the £500 is just for the service, then it's exccessive.
The A is £150 ish - not bad considering I've always paid over £220

If you are in Leeds - I would recommend calling Harrogate to see what they would be... (NOT York - even though they are the same group)

I have always had the best MB service from them, compared to the others in the wide area.

I'm in London.

I'll have to look around again. The £500 for half a days work (their timing) does look too much. The £306 looks more realistic.

Thanks for your help guys.

Thanks Malcolm210,

I'm worried about the Mobilo being voided and thus losing the rust cover.

I can't see why using an Indy would invalid the rust cover. Servicing looks after oil changes, spark plugs, filters etc. I can't see how one could "service" a body panel and therefore by going to an Indy would be any different to a main dealer.
I can understand that if you took it to an Indy and the engine seizes then yes, Mercedes can default on paying up but when its an item that is non-serviceable then they can't refuse honouring the corrosion warranty.
What does everyone else think?
