I have an E320 cdi 2001 saloon. The running temperature of the car is c60'cs.

The heater if on maximum speed is a, not particularly fast and b, not hot even on the hottest setting. Also air con not cold?

Can anybody give me any advice please?

sounds like you have a thermostat issue

The mem's was the same when we bought it. Wouldn't get up past 60 deg C unless stuck in traffic. £32 quid for a new stat fixed the problem. Now it's fully warm in about 15 mins in this weather. It's a fiddly job though, you have to be careful with the fuel pipes that sit near the stat housing. They are very fragile. It is possible to change the sensor without removing the stat, but you might as well do both ( the new stat comes with sensor from Merc).

With a diesel in winter, why not blank off half of the rad, it will halve the warm up time

The problem with the aircon may be the condenser radiator, under the bonnet behind the passenger side suspension strut. I say maybe because its a known weakness......and its not cheap either. Mine lasted about 65k.....

Lack of heat, as discussed is that your engine is running cold so sort that first. It should be around 80c.
Secondly your fan. Start with replacing the pollen filter. If that doesn't help, check the regulator and fan brushes.
The aircon - does the light go out? If its on (EC button) then the aircon is not working. If the light goes out then it is. If you press the button and the light stays on, then there is a fault.

Not if the stats working correctly. also check if your aux heater booster is working, some cdi's have an electrical one fitted under inlet manifold or a diesel one front bumper area.
