Hi all,

Just posted an injector problem so thought I might as well sort the remaining issue with this car.

Problem is with the heating. Car takes ages to warm up and seems to be chucking more hot to passenger side then drivers. The fan has a mind of its own and seems to occasionally run on full speed even on setting 2. The car does not have climate just the blue/red dials for heating and air con is working fine. I have not chnged the cabin filter and seeing as I seem to have changed everything else might do this anyway.

The other problem is with the rear boot cover. If I pull it back and close the bootlid it springs up and blocks my sight. If I let the bootlid close genlty it doesn't but sometimes springs up in transit! Any ideas on a fix?

Cheers,
Simon.

On the slow warm up - does the temp gauge climb and the car take ages or is the engine slow to warm?
The passenger/driver mix is controlled by the duo valve so assuming both temp selectors are set to the same, it's probably the driver's side thats dicky.

On the fan speed side, your fan regulator pack is faulty. It will get worse. Easy to change though. Mine used to whistle too!

And yes, if it hasn't been done, change the filter. A blocked one causes all sorts of problems.

on the boot lid

there are a couple of buttons that the lid presses on when it shuts. These set the blind to the caught-ready to raise psoition, and when the lid is next opened, the blind goes up. They are probably sticking with an accumulation of dirt from age and use. get some silicone spray, or even wd40, and get a rag or other cloth. Shield the area of the catch, and spray into the bit occupied by the button. work it a few times and spray again. if that doesn't do it, then you might need new catches. repeat the performance every couple of months and it should stay sweet.

Thanks for the replies guys - so the boot cover is supposed to pop up when you open the boot - how annoying.

The car does seem to take a while to get hot (engine wise) and I don't think its getting as hot as it was with this latest cold snap. I will investigate the rad pipes to see if I have a thermostat stuck open.... I have just noticed that if I get back to my car and its misted up the screen takes ages to clear (10 mins at the station after a 1/5 hr train /tube journey from London - v annoying) cheers, Simon.

If you are in any doubt about the condition of the cooling system thermostat change it before it sticks shut and boils up the engine or stays open and buggers up the lubrication.
