E320 cdi heater booster

Hi guys,

Just been reading the thread about the heater booster started by Meatballs. I have as switch on my e class (next to ash tray) and I don't think it's doing anything. I can't see anything like an exaust coming out of or any pipes going to the inner wing. I do have what looks like an electric pump next to the turbo mounted on the chassis. Would like to know more about this system as my car takes ages to warm up despite new thermostat and duovalve..

You have the same as me, an electric unit fitted under the black vacuum tank just up from the pump (follow the alternator wire up)
I've just had mine replaced. I suspected it wasn't working because in cold weather I remember the engine being loaded (alternator) just after starting. When I switched it off the engine freed up.
This wasn't happening. My (main agent) dealer is doing labour @ £40 so I let them fix it (new element £200)

Put your hand just in front of the o/s/f wheel or better still take a look ,if it has a webasto diesel fired booster you will see a small stainless exhaust protuding from the plastic cover.They get all the weather and I'm not surprised they stop working.What area are in ?

Mine has the electric booster heater. Now I have to decide if I want to spend £200 on a new element? Am based in Oxford.

It's worth letting Mercedes at Cribbs do the job. They'll test it first and if it needs replacing you will get a guarantee.
