Hi all,
Would anyone be able to provide some guidance on how to perform an oil/filter change on my 2001 Y-reg e320 cdi? Have not found anything on the net and there are no Haynes manual either. I have performed oil changes on my other "domestic" cars (Rover, Renault) for years so I think I can get on with this one as well. Also my last B service was an obscene £800 (there was nothing wrong with the car!) so I am thinking to perform the interim services (A) myself, leaving the more exhaustive B services to the main Merc dealer. Any help/guidance appreciated! Thanks in advance.:-D
Cheers,
Franck.

Franck,

If you're intent on diy'ing the services then purchase a pukka Merc manual adverised on eBay. They are cheaper than the pathetic Haynes manuals these days and will cover everything you need to know.
Re the oil change - drain the (hot) oil from the sump after taking the undershield off. The oil plug needs to have its copper washer renewed and tightened to 18lbft. The filter is a typical merc cartidge filter accessed through the alloy cartidge bowl attached to the engine RHS viewed from front. Replace the o ring seals as supplied with the filter. Tighten the filter up to 18lbft again - Job done.
The oil quantity is 7.5 litres of the best - I always use fully synth, as do others on the forum.

Dont change the oil spec, fully synthetic, expensive but the engine needs it.

Chaps,
Thanks for the responses. For oil - yes - mobil 1 fully synt/0W40 as for previous services. Having changed the oil, how do you then reset the Assyst/onboard computer setting? I hear you have to press the "R" button on the dashboard at the same time as turning the ignition key. Is this correct?
Cheers,
Franck.
