Hello all,

Me ol' Da was thinking of picking up something like a '03 E320CDI Avantgarde.

Any opinions in general? How much firmer than the Elegance is Avantgarde on our abysmal Irish dirt roads?

Specifically, can I ask if he should go for an airmatic model? I've done a couple of searches and replacement doesn't seem to be unheard of and expensive to replace BUT is there an advantage in comfort?? I know he'd love the sports suspension looks without the bone rattling he's getting in his GS300 Sport.

I have the ABC suspension, and that is fantastic and unlike any other

The avantgarde isn't hat much firmer than the elegance. It just wallows less really. It's still perfectly comfortable on dodgy roads.
ABC is great if you can find one but certainly not essential.
Ideally try to push for a mid 04 - one. The 03s aren't bad but the quality did improve over the following 18 months.

Thanks for the replie but slight addition to original question;);

He's now thinking about '03 E320 petrols in the UK- at the moment they are more than viable to buy compared to diesels.

Any idea of real world mpg??

Any specific faults to make sure are rectified??

Avantgaurde is also slightly lower ride height than Elegance - about 1 inch.
