Cack handed thrifty Scot grudges £75 plus vat for labour to fit rear mudguards. Are they easy to fit DIY? ANything more than a bit of simple Phillips screwdriver will necessitate my surrender to the dealers!! ;)

All MB mud flaps are easy to fit, the instructions are good and simple.

Thanks Guys

thanks for the reply - I'll have a go. Must say, though, I agree that the flaps look quite cheap!

Cheers,
JP

T212 facelift, 2013. A few toys including pan roof, 19" rims, Harmon Kardon, nappa, privacy glass.
Easy to fit (2 minutes each) but agree with others, a crap fit. Also the fronts on mine hit every speed bump possible with the Avantgarde suspension. If you do fit, for the front, I would put a tab of tape on the metal clip that pinches the metal and flap to avoid scratching the paint. Whilst you will not see it (as it is inside the arch) if you do scratch - and it is metal on painted metal - corrosion will start..........

Look ****e, but I'm told they reduce the stone chiping. I bought mine cos i was ticked off with driving through a puddle and having a filthy boot on my estate, seems to have worked.

Interesting that you cant fit flaps to the AMG bodied SL and no stone marks yet, mind you I try and drive round them

I'm sure you're right that the flaps don't reduce stone chipping, was only repeating what I had heard. Out of interest though, how do you drive round the loose stones on a recently re-surfaced road ? (assuming you have to drive on the road etc etc).

On a serious note,I know what you are saying and going back to the original post if you want to reduce (but not stop) spray and consequently the dirt etc on the back of the car rear flaps do help.

Very true, as can be seen on high milage cars without flaps fitted.

Just a fact, lorries in Sweden have side brushes on the rear wheel mud gaurds to stop the spray comming sideways.

'PS I do not drive the SL on newly surfaced roads, I turn around and go a different way :cool:

The road outside leading to my mothers has had the dreaded stone chippings went out of my way to get there, the blasted council should send out the road sweeper to clear the excess!!!

Whilst you can drive slowly your self, all it takes is pone idiot comming the other way too fast, thats the problem

Just got back from Dorset and there was a 2 mile stretch of "beach" on the road following resurfacing. The very next day the road sweeper style machines were cleaning up.

I drove as left as possible and slowly and far back as was was, as did most others, but as Malcolm says you only need one numpty to blitz past - which they did - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
