E320 cdi rust

Hi all. An update on my 2002 210 E320 cdi rust problem. The nsf wheel arch had started to corrode & paint was coming off. MB paint shop said coz it had been painted b4 they would not repair it. After swopping letters with DC UK they originally rejected my request for new wing etc. A follow up letter from me pointing out the full MBSH of the vehicle, prompted them to ask to see the car again. A long story short is they have agreed to change wing etc. if I make a contribution of £250.00 & vat.
Any views?

The problem here is who repaired it originally. If it was MB, then they have to repair it again at their cost. if not, they can justifiably argue that the repair was not up to standard.

I take it you don't know for definite who painted it previously (bought used?). If so, and if they're replacing the whole wing, £250 isn't really out of the way as a contribution, given that they are within their rights to tell you to go away. If they're just spraying it then you could probably have it done cheaper but this way MB will guarantee the work.

Yep, I've successfully invoked this principle. If an MB repair fails they are obliged to repair it again ... at their expense! It happened to me with an upper window channel (rear, nearside door). Rust broke out within 18 months from new. Following an MB repair, rust broke out again within 2 years and this time was much worse. MB made me wait 8 months before giving me their decision, meanwhile the rust spread. The second MB repair is holding. Fingers crossed.
