E320 CDI Transmission Programme Selector

Hi, My 53 plate E320 Auto is defaulting back to W mode everytime the ignition is turned off/on. I've looked through the manual and it just tell me what the functions do, not how to change the default setting. I had orriginally assumed that S was sport, but the book has put me right on that, S = Standard and W = WInter...Can anyone tell me how to change this so that I don't have to put it back to S everytime I start the car?

Everyone always blames the software

I have an S320 which I assume is similar. This always defaults to S on startup regardless of the previous setting. The book does not give any hint on changing the default.

Have you had any recent work done on the car, new or flat battery for instance? I just wonder if this is a default that can only be set with the right tools plugged in.

PS, could be software after all.

Now I feel like a fool, I tried all the combinations I could think of this morning, such as the above, before submitting this post. Just been out to the car to try it again following Malcolm's suggestion, and it came straight up with S.... SO something must have done the trick
