I recently spent my hard earned money on a 2002 E320 CDI Estate. Can anyone advise likely problem with wipers. When switched to Position one the wipers wipe continuously instead of intermittent. All other wiper operations operate to spec. Is it a relay or the switch or...?

Hi & Welcome,

It could also be that the sensor in the screen is either dirty or faulty. I would first clean the screen really well paying particular attention to the sensor window.

Centre of the screen at the top behind the rear view mirror, you can see the blue sensor from the outside.
You may have something else wrong but this is the cheapest option to start with.

Cleaned Sensor Area but unfortunately no luck, problem remains! Could it be a relay problem?

Wiper fix

I opened the cover on the windscreen rain sensor and unplugged the lead. Plugged lead back in ande and fitted the cover. Wiper is now working properly so I suspect sensor cover/backing unit had worked loose over time.

Many of the control units lock up on cars as on Digi and Sky boxes, unplugging can and does solve many silly faults, not so silly when your quote to fix from MB is in telephone numbers.

Hello knowledgeable m.b. helpers.
I posted a question last week asking, "Why intermittent wiper continuous?"
The askance proved spurious because I had not done my homework properly in not finding this thread.
Unplug rain sensor then obtain basic intermittent service.
A most satisfactory, simple, temporary solution. ( N.B. The screen is polished super clean.)
Dare I ask. Is a check of the now isolated circuitry associated with with the rain sensor possible?
Many thanks.
