I have an annoying tinny or plasticky rattle from the rear load area on my E320 estate (W211). My dealer told me it was the due to broken plastic fixings holding the large chrome trim across the loadspace area and this was also suggested as the cause of a similar rattle found in an AutoExpress stripdown of a W211 estate. However, I took the chrome trim off recently and the rattle is still there. I'ts weird cus it will appear on one journey, but be completely silent on the next journey, even though they may only be minutes apart and I've not opened the tailgate in between. It's directly related to bumps in the road. I thought it was inside the tailgate itself, around the area of the wiper motor, but it also sounds like it could be something to do with the mechanism that lifts the loadspace cover, whether on the pegs that locate on the cover itself or the rails and plastic mechanism the pegs locate into.
Now I know it's not major in the scheme of things, but boy is it irritating and detracts from the serenity.
Any suggestions greatfully received, and yes I know I've rattled on a bit about this.
Many thanks.
