Recently acquired my 2nd E320 Coupe 5sp auto and all seems well aside from an increase in 'noise' when lifting off the throttle at speeds over 60mph, goes when accelerator is depressed. Seems okay at lower speeds. Any ideas what this could be? Does not seem to affect performance and not clear if coming from engine or elsewhere.

sounds like the CAT to me (catalytic converter), it could be on the way out.

id lean more towards the rear diff tbh , try an oil change on it , if not maybe the prop shaft doughnut.

I only got the noise from failing doughnut when under fairly hard accileration, bit like the sound of going over cats eyes on road only bit quiter.

Diffs whine when they are pulling and are quiet on the over run

Thanks guys for all the comments, the noise is not there on acceleration just on throttle lift off at cruising speeds above 60mph . The cat converter sounds like a good place to start. The car appears to have been well serviced looking at the records and was last done about 2/3000 miles ago and I have just put it through an MoT okay.
