Yesterday i replaced the head gasket on my wifes car test ran it lovely drove home leaking oil from the offside front of the block to head joint.
Back to work today remove head clean and check everything all okay refit with some sealant around the offside front of the gasket all back together test drove okay, gave it a good thrahing on the way home and guess what , yes its leaking again not as bad but back to what it was originally.
Now i know these motors suffer from this leak but i used a genuine head set both times.
What am i doing wrong??
Block is perfect.
Head face is good a few marks here and there but nothing i would call serious.

Any help much appreciated.
Thank you

Either the head is slightly warped and needs skimming or the headbolts haven't been torqued up correctly (maybe stretched).

I'd get the head on a surface plate (or a piece of glass) and see if you can get a feeler guage under it anywhere.

Hi

I doubt the head gasket is the problem. The problem I would suggest is the seal at the front of the front housing not fitted correctly when fitting the front cover. This moves & as you go round corners spues out oil. The other thing you have probably done is put sealer around this seal. Again this will only cause leaks. Only the metal sides should have any sealer on NOT the seal surface. We usually put a littel grease on to help the cover slide over the seal. Make sure there is NO sealent on the grove where the seal fits. Or again it will leak oil.

Good luck
