ok dumb question i know but....
gonna have a go at a oil and filter change tomorrow...anyone know where the filter is located
had a quick look when topping up levels etc and didnt notice it?
its a w210 model
DAMM..DOUBLE DAMM!
and i bought 2 gallons of magnatec on special for 11.99 but left one at home as a spare and thought id do an oil change while im at my girlfriends over this weekend with the other one
oh well off to halfords tomorrow to be well and truely ripped off for another gallon
errr just having a look at the car and it seems the oil filter is at the top of the engine right at the front right hand side when you arr looking at the engine??????? HELP
I think you must be looking at the power steering fluid reservoir
you should find it close to the back of the engine near the bulkhead on the passenger side (near the battery). Its not a tin can type like you get from halfords it has to be unscrewed and taken out of a metal container.
sounds like it would be a good idea to get a Haynes or the W124 CDs from Ebay.
sounds like a good idea if you have a w124 merc
mines a w210 so maybe not such a cool idea..plus haynes dont do a manual for them
couldnt even find the ****** sump drain plug..so i give up anyway
and if its near the battery then it must be under the back seat somewere lol..cheers anyway
sorry , forgot we were talking about a 210. Looking at those pics it looks like they moved the oil filter to the front even though its same engine. CDs still a good idea but more useful if you got 210 ones
hmmm looks more promising now
any suggestions for undoing the oil filter housing..i did try several times by hand with a rag arounf it but no joy..couldnt budge the bugger..im guessing its NOT a left hand thread? my next attempt is going to be a 16" pair of waterpump pliers to shift the bugger..unless there is a better way?
couldnt see much drain plug wise under the sump but no i know where it is i guess its a jack and axle stand job to get to the bugger..or can you access it with the wheel off?

Do not try pump pliers go to your local motor factor and buy the proper tool about £5. I have seen people crush the plastic cap using pliers. When you tighten it up only nip it as you will break the plastic cap.
Using an 8 mm socket remove the four bolts holding the engine undertray on and you will see the sump bung.
My wifes 96 W210 E320 holds exactly 6.5 litres including filter.
