I recently drove my car through 12" of water and the battery protection kicked in and the engine cut off. I have charged the battery and I can feel compression but it won't start. Do I need to reset anything?

It turns and it does not feel to tight or too loose, it seems like it is just not sparking though.

If you are lucky the alternator may have ceased, try taking the belt off and starting.

If not then you may have ingested some water into the engine

2004 E320CDI The engine cut the second I hit the water and the front screen said battery protection in red. The battery was then flat and it did not have enough power to turn anything. I have charged the battery now and it turns over but will not start. It still says about protection though.

Agree with E/T on the alternator is now fried! Engine should still start though unless as Ellsy said you have bent a con-rod or worse, should still start tho! i fear now you need some one to have a look and some tests done!!!

Thats normal when the battery is nearly flat or low, just means the car has turned of all the high currant items!! i,e heated seats etc!
