Hi, I have difficulty starting when the car is facing uphill and has sat for around 30 minutes. It starts and imediately stops and I have to wind the starter for some time presumably to get the diesel back up from the tank. Are there any common causes for this or am I looking at taking it to the dealer for the dreaded diagnostic test. regards AA

Although I sometimes don't use it for 2-3 weeks at a time, my car has never missed a beat but today it did exactly the same as the OP's case.

I left it pointing only slightly uphill and it started and then died. It then took several bursts (I've never experienced the automatic starter churning before - that's quite weird!) to get it going. I was on the point of giving up and testing Mobilo for the first time ever.

If it's the same fault at TV suggests, can anyone tell me if there are clear fuel pipes on my C270 that I can look for air in?

Yes there are clear fuel pipes. Get them changed. The cold weather accentuates the problem caused by age.

Well, it's -1C here this morning and the car is well iced up. Parked level on my drive and it started as instantly as it normally does this morning. If it hadn't been for backing it down the drive at my daughter's new house yesterday I'd never have suspected a problem.

There's no way I'm going to change fuel pipes myself, but I'm loath to give a the dealer (don't have a decent indie within reach) a blank cheque to start changing things on the off chance.
