I have a 2002 E320cdi.

Problem 1 - Can't get gearstick out of Park without using manual release. It did this before but then the problem seemed to resolve itself. It has now come back.

Problem 2 - SRS light is on. Took it to a guy who was more interested in £20 for hooking it up to his computer than actually resolving the problem. Says I need a new unit and £600 quid will resolve. - He didn't mention the other fault that showed up which stated there was low voltage in something

Finally Problem 3 - When I unlock the car it takes about 20 seconds before the boot finally unlocks. Only one of the back doors will unlock I have to open the rear passenger drivers side door from the inside. When I lock the car the back doors remain unlocked.

Any advice on problem solving and idea of cost will be appreciated - Thanks

The brake light switch is one recorded fault for your problem 1, it only £9 and easy to fit. Must be worth a try

The door locking should be a vacuum leak, probably on the offending door.

SRS common fault can be a contact ring. A simple reset may even solve it. In any case, the £600 suggestion sounds heavy to me. I'd write off the £20 and find yourself a proper indie. To be honest £20 is a bit cheap for a proper diagnostic. I paid an indie £50.

Thanks

Been to see another indie today. If he is as good as his patter then that'll do. He pretty much confirmed everything you said. He puts the cost of the switch at about £50.

He also suggested a leak re the door.
and take the bulb out of the SRS light if it he can't fix it without replacing the unit

the switch is £9 and easy to fit,one 17mmm nut and 10 mins, though MB list this as a reason for the gear shift to lock up.

There are two parts to this switch,it is the second part that fails as this kills the speed signal.

I can go into the SRS bit later on

I'd agree with Malcolm. I'd expect a main dealer to charge around £50 to replace the switch. Labour wise, you're looking at 20 mins and the part is very little. I hope he's good as he's certainly charging for it!

Years back I had gearbox sticking in Park and the problem kept returning. Malcolm will help me with this. It turned out to be a circlip, I think holding a cable, not done up properly. So allowed slippage and jamming in Park. No idea technically what was happening except that is what they said.

Its interesting that I see that they have done away with the gear lock to switch cable on the last in the series

Got the problems solved with the exception of the airbag. Turns out you were right. The swicth at the brake was the prob. A leak in the rear door caused the c/locking prob. RE the airbag. It appears to be a common fault for taxi drivers whereby the fault is in the front passenger seat.

Thansk for all your help.
