I have 53 plate E320CDI A/G. The passenger side wing mirror has a strange problem. The indicator lights work when open but not when closed and the mirror adjust only works in the vertical plane and not in the horizontal. I cannot determine which fuse controls this circuit so cannot eliminate a fuse problem (incidently the MB website shows the fuses to be located on the passenger side - it is on the driver side - RHD model). Has anyone else encounterd this problem? The dashboard shows a bulb error for the wing mirror bulb.

If the mirror cover isn't on just right, the bulb holder won't connect correctly and you'll get this problem. Have the mirror cover removed and refitted and it will probably be fine.

It looks more like a broken wire due to the folding action to me, everything is wired to the plug

Possibly Malcolm. I'm just thinking that as the cover slides over the frame, the plug for the indicator slides in and connects. As the mirror folds, the case will be pushed forward slightly against the rubber seals and could separate the connector if it's not firm enough.
That said, I'd expect it to need a gentle nudge back in before it would work again. So, as you say, probably a worn wire.

It could be anything JB as you say sockets do become strained at times, easy enough to fix once inside
