My E320CDI has been plagued by electronic problems since I bought it 26 months ago.  It has had 4 dash consoles, 3 rain sensor units, gear select solenoid, cruise copntrol unit and others too numerous to mention.

It still reports ongoing faults and last week the windows went down but refused to go back up until I switched off and started again.

Has anybody else had similar experiences?

E320CDI - Electronoc Nightmare

No..  but as an electonics research and development engineer I can honestly say that when things are going that wrong I suspect the one common thing in the system...  the power supply.  It could well be that the supply is full of spikes possibly due to a lack of suppression..  perhaps a faulty alternator, or regulation circuitry..  personally I'd get an oscilloscope on it.  Power supplies provide a wonderful way of getting unrelated circuitry to interract.  If you don't have the tools/skill/patience, then try getting hold of a few seriously big capacitors (>16V, >10,000uF) and connecting them from the supply to the chassis.  Check the other end of the power supply system while you're at it.. the earth side.  If earthing straps are not perfect then everything can become a nightmare, they should be rock solid.

Having said all this, seeing as you posted in April I hope it's all sorted out now.
