I have a W210 320cdi with 90k on the clock and fmbsh. When I got the car sometimes the tickover became lumpy, usually when hot after being driven, sometimes when started hot. Not usually from cold. Sometimes the glow plug light stays on for a minute when cold, or comes on after starting from cold and then goes out quite quickly (200yds down the road)

The car has had 4 new glow plugs, new MAF sensor, new air filter and a dose of fuel treatment. The problem has almost gone but seems to return at will, but no where near as bad as before.

I'm thinking I may still have a couple of dodgy plugs or plug relay which will have to be done.

Also I am thinkimg that the EGR valve needs cleaning.

Can I just take the valve out on its own and clean it, or does the inlet manifold have to come off?

I have seen Parrot of Doom's thread on doing this on a 210 300TD (which is very good) is it the same for this motor? I am hoping I can just get the valve out on it's own.

Would dodgy plugs cause the EGR valve to clog up?

The car drives fine and still pulls like a train (during the Italian tune up phase), I can get 41mpg on a run and average about 36mpg.

Thanks in advance.

I suspect the injectors will be faulty. A diesel specialist wil be able to pinpoint the dodgy one or two.

The leak off is probably excessive. I would say that is the "normal" cause.

Thanks for your advice. Does this mean new injectors or are there seals which can be replaced?

Is it a DIY job?

If I need new injectors are they pricey?

Many thanks.
