My understanding of Brake Assist is that in the event of you having to brake for an emergency. Nearly all people don't press the pedal hard enough and in fact could stop quicker. Brake Assist senses when an emergency braking application is made and exerts the maximum stopping force that the car can apply.
Research showes that when an emergancy stop is carried out and ABS kicks in nearly all drivers release pressure on the brake pedal this is not a good idea when trying to stop quickly. BAS control unit measures speed of application, pressure and brake travel and if these factors indicate emergency stop BAS uses servo pressure to apply maximum brakes without release untill the brake pedal is fully released .
